"By definition, and by analogy with 'forearm', the term 'forewing' refers to the front (or leading) part of a wing - any wing. On the other hand, the 'fore wing' means just that, the front wing, where there are more than one. The same goes for 'hindwing' vs 'hind wing'" - A. Polaszek
